The project CrossLab has the goal of building flexible laboratories. For achieving this goal, it is important to understand the market of remote laboratories in which CrossLab wants to operate in. To reach this understanding, the NORDAKADEMIE (Marcus Soll, Jan Haase) and the Technische Universität Ilmenau (Pierre Helbig, Johannes Nau) cooperated to analyse current standards and protocols to build remote laboratories.

A total of seven protocols / standards (SCORM/xAPI, IMS-LTI, IEEE 1876-2019 / IEEE 1484.12.1-2002, IVI / VISA, OPC-UA, WebLab-Deusto / LabsLand, GOLDi-Labs) were analysed. It was revealed that a gap exists in connecting multiple devices into larger laboratories. This is where CrossLab can actually fill a gap in the current remote laboratory stack.
