Digital – Cross-regional – Modern

The quantum mechanics venue is a learning teaching laboratory for high school students, and closely connected to the education of physics teachers at TU Dortmund University. In this context the lab is continuously used and developed by university students. The lab focusses on the execution of key experiments in quantum physics and the visualization of quantum mechanical effects. By exploiting the contradiction between classical expectations and experimental observation, cognitive dissonances are stimulated and later resolved, which leads to an enhanced learning outcome.

Within the CrossLab project three experiments will be re-modelled and digitally enhanced by the use of AR and VR techniques. This not only improves the visualization of quantum mechanical effects, but also allows for a decoupling of the experiments from the laboratory location and fosters a cross-regional use. Choosing distinct experiments allows building of the necessary know-how and for the development of best practices for the continuous integration of AR and VR techniques. University students will be embedded early on in the project. This way the project also enables a direct knowledge transfer to high schools.
